Alphablock X - "extremely extraordinary and extra exciting" PATTERN :)

Hi, I'm e✖️tremely e✖️traordinary and e✖️tra e✖️citing to present you the Alphablock ✖️ I made especially for my son. He wanted to dress up as the Alphablock X for carnival ball in kindergarten. So I was determined to fulfill his little dream and decided to crochet the Alphablock X to match his costume. Probably few people know Alphablock, so the toy would be a kind of explanation what his costume was :) Do you know Alphablocks or Numberblocks? I definitely prefer the latter and I'm going to figure out the pattern in the nearest future ;)
***
You may read more about Alphablock X here and watch a lot of videos on youtube to get familiar with Alphablocks. Frankly speaking I much prefer Numberblocks and I'm planning to crochet the numbers from 1 to 10. I made Numberblocks for my son with paper (origami blocks) and now it's time to prepare crochet version. I hope I'll make them soon :)
Below - to get the idea how they look like - I attach the photos presenting my paper version. Numberblocks are really cute :)
I found the pattern for paper origami cubes here. Remaining parts of numberblocks are my idea (elements are drawn and cut out of paper, and coloured with markers or paints). It was a challenge to maintain aspect ratio but I think it worked out pretty well :)

If your child loves the numbers (as my son does), I highly recommend you to watch the videos on youtube - the series is great :)

However if your child loves the letters, I recommend you to crochet the Alphablocks :) I hope the pattern how to crochet the Alphablock X will be a guideline for you to create some variations of the other letters (after making some modifications). I'm not going to crochet more Alphablocks (...unless my son asks me to do something more :)). The alphablock could be a bit wider but you may adjust it by adding more chains in the front and the back part. It is my experimental alphablock so I'm aware of imperfection.

OK, Let's start crocheting the Alphablock X :)

Front part

Yellow
In the end of every row make 1 turning chain (tch)
Row 1: ch 30, insert the hook in 2nd ch from the hook and work 29 sc [29]
Rows 2-14: 29 sc [29]
Change to blue:
Row 15: BLO 29 sc [29] (In FLO you will continue to crochet the triangular part with yellow yarn).
Rows 16-32: 29 sc [29]

Front part continuation (triangular part) - yellow:

Row 15: FLO, 29 sc [29]
Row 16: 4 sl st, 2 sc, 4 hdc, 4 dc, 1 tr, 4 dc, 4 hdc, 2 sc, 4 sl st [29]
Row 17: 5 sl st, 3 sc, 4hdc, 2 dc, (1 tr, ch2, 1 tr) in one st, 2 dc, 4 hdc, 3 sc, 5 sl st [29]

Don't sew the triangle to the blue part yet. You will do it later, after joining all the parts.

Side (make 2)

Yellow
In the end of every row make 1 turning chain (tch)
Row 1: ch 16, insert the hook in 2nd ch from the hook and work 15 sc [15]
Rows 2-16: 15 sc [15]
Change to blue:
Rows 17-32: BLO 15 sc [15]

Back part

Yellow
In the end of every row make 1 turning chain (tch)
Row 1: ch 30, insert the hook in 2nd ch from the hook and work 29 sc [29]
Rows 2-16: 29 sc [29]
Change to blue:
Row 17-32: BLO, 29 sc [29]

Bottom part

Yellow
In the end of every row make 1 turning chain (tch)
Row 1: ch 30, insert the hook in 2nd ch from the hook and work 29 sc [29]
Rows 2-15: 29 sc [29]

Now join all the parts (on the wrong side, so the front part with triangular shape is inward).
Work single crochets/or sl sts around the edges (join the bottom yellow part in the end). Finally turn the block inside out, so the seam goes inside (it is not visible).
Be careful to match color parts between all the rectangles (blue to blue, yellow to yellow).
(in the photos below you see that I started crocheting the white upper part - you may do it later)

Now you may sew the triangle to the blue part (it is recommendeed to pin it before sewing to keep shape). You may also sew it after crocheting the white part (but before joining the top white part - it is easier to put the hand inside the rectangle to sew the trangle).

White part

Continue to crochet, inserting the hook into the stitches of blue parts: front, back and sides.
In the end of every row make 1 turning chain (tch)

Front/Back

Rows 1-20: 29 sc [29]

Side (make 2)

Rows 1-20: 15 sc [15]

Top

Rows 1-15: 29 sc [29]

Join all the white edges - the way is similar to the earlier joining of yellow and blue parts - but you should join the inside edges (you don't have the possibility to turn the white part inside out). Just remember - don't close the upper back edge to add stuffing and in the end join the opposite edges (the outer seam will not be much visible at the back).

Thumb (make 2)

White
Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR [6]
Rnds 2-3: 6 sc [6]
Cut the yarn.

Left hand

White
Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR [6]
Rnd 2: 6 inc [12]
Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) x 6 [18]
Rnd 4: (2 sc, inc) x 6 [24]
Rnds 5-7: 24 sc [24]
Rnd 8: (10 sc, dec) x 2 [22]
Now join the thumb:
Rnd 9: 3 sc hooking through the stitches of thumb (inner part) and the stitches of hand, 7 sc, dec, 10 sc [21]
Rnd 10: 3 sc crocheting around the unworked sts of the thumb, 18 sc [21]
Rnd 11: 10 sc, dec, 9 sc [20]
Rnd 12: 20 sc [20]
Rnd 13: (8 sc, dec) x 2 [18]
Rnd 14: FLO (in BLO then you will start the arm with yellow yarn)
ch 3 (= 1 dc), dc inc, (1 dc, dc inc) x 8 [27]

Now change to yellow and start crocheting the arm (BLO in rnd 14 but I count the round as rnd 1 to facilitate counting of the rounds):
Rnd 1: BLO, 18 sc [18]
Rnd 2: (1 sc, dec) x 6 [12]
Rnd 3-18: 12 sc [12]

Right hand

Rnd 10: 18 sc, 3 sc crocheting around the unworked sts of the thumb [21]
Rnd 11: 9 sc, dec, 10 sc [20]
Rnd 12-14: the same pattern as for the left hand

Now change to yellow yarn and start crocheting the arm (BLO in rnd 14 but I count the round as rnd 1 to facilitate the round counting):
Rnd 1: BLO, 18 sc [18]
Rnd 2: (1 sc, dec) x 6 [12]
Rnd 3-18: 12 sc [12]

Rnd 3: 4 sc, (1 sc, inc) x 5, 4 sc, (1 sc, inc) x 3 [32]
Rnd 4: 4 sc, (2 sc, inc) x 5, 4 sc, (2 sc, inc) x 3 [40]
Rnd 5: BLO 40 sc [40]
Rnds 6-8: 40 sc [40]

Change to yellow (I start counting from rnd 1):
Rnd 1: BLO 16 sc [16]
Rnds 2-8: 16 sc [16]

In the end of every row crochet 1 tch and turn.
Row 1: ch 2, insert the hook in 2nd ch from the hook and work 1 inc [2]
Row 2: 2 inc [4]
Row 3: inc, 2 sc, inc [6]
Row 4: 6 sc [6]

Now crochet single crochets around with white yarn:
10 sc, (1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc) in the eye's corner, 10 sc.
Fasten off, I work invisible finish.

Now crochet scs around with black Alize Softy, joining two parts together.

Finally embroider pupils and white reflections (I split YarnArt Jeans in two threads).
Sew the eyes/glasses with black Alize along the inner part of the glasses.
