Hi, I'm e✖️tremely e✖️traordinary and e✖️tra e✖️citing to present you the Alphablock ✖️ I made especially for my son. He wanted to dress up as the Alphablock X for carnival ball in kindergarten. So I was determined to fulfill his little dream and decided to crochet the Alphablock X to match his costume. Probably few people know Alphablock, so the toy would be a kind of explanation what his costume was :) Do you know Alphablocks or Numberblocks? I definitely prefer the latter and I'm going to figure out the pattern in the nearest future ;)

Frankly speaking I much prefer Numberblocks and I'm planning to crochet the numbers from 1 to 10. I made Numberblocks for my son with paper (origami blocks) and now it's time to prepare crochet version. I hope I'll make them soon :)
Below - to get the idea how they look like - I attach the photos presenting my paper version. Numberblocks are really cute :)
I found the pattern for paper origami cubes here. Remaining parts of numberblocks are my idea (elements are drawn and cut out of paper, and coloured with markers or paints). It was a challenge to maintain aspect ratio but I think it worked out pretty well :)

If your child loves the numbers (as my son does), I highly recommend you to watch the videos on youtube - the series is great :)
However if your child loves the letters, I recommend you to crochet the Alphablocks :) I hope the pattern how to crochet the Alphablock X will be a guideline for you to create some variations of the other letters (after making some modifications). I'm not going to crochet more Alphablocks (...unless my son asks me to do something more :)). The alphablock could be a bit wider but you may adjust it by adding more chains in the front and the back part. It is my experimental alphablock so I'm aware of imperfection.
OK, Let's start crocheting the Alphablock X :)
- small amount of Yarn Art Jeans for the mouth (white for teeth and black for mouth's inside, pink for tongue), white for the eyes
- black thread for embroidering eyebrows and nose.
- crochet hook 2.5 mm
with legs: 36 cm / 14.17 inches
width: 14 cm / 5.5 inches

• ch = chain
• tch = turning chain (in the end of a row)
• sc = single crochet
• hdc = half double crochet

Now join all the parts (on the wrong side, so the front part with triangular shape is inward).
Work single crochets/or sl sts around the edges (join the bottom yellow part in the end). Finally turn the block inside out, so the seam goes inside (it is not visible).
Be careful to match color parts between all the rectangles (blue to blue, yellow to yellow).

Now you may sew the triangle to the blue part (it is recommendeed to pin it before sewing to keep shape). You may also sew it after crocheting the white part (but before joining the top white part - it is easier to put the hand inside the rectangle to sew the trangle).
White part
Continue to crochet, inserting the hook into the stitches of blue parts: front, back and sides.

Join all the white edges - the way is similar to the earlier joining of yellow and blue parts - but you should join the inside edges (you don't have the possibility to turn the white part inside out). Just remember - don't close the upper back edge to add stuffing and in the end join the opposite edges (the outer seam will not be much visible at the back).

Finally embroider pupils and white reflections (I split YarnArt Jeans in two threads).
Sew the eyes/glasses with black Alize along the inner part of the glasses.

Embroider the eyebrows and nose with black thread.
Sew the mouth (teeth with black inner part), embroider the pink tongue onto the black part and embroider the black line around the mouth.
