Hello, this is free pattern for Easter hen. This is special species of bobble hen, so watch the tutorial and crochet with me :)
Watch the tutorial o YouTube (English subtitles):
I worked with YarnArt Jeans, crochet hook 2.25 mm.
You may use any yarn you want. Adjust the crochet hook to your yarn.
Materials:
YarnArt Jeans:
- white (main color), 1 skein is enough
- red for the comb, beak and legs.
- scraps of yarn for the bobbles.
Start with white yarn, ch 21.
Insert the hook in 2nd ch and work around the basic chain:
Rnd 1: inc, 18 sc, 5 sc in one st, work on the opposite side of the chain: 18 sc, inc [45]
Rnd 2: 1 sc, inc, 18 sc, (inc, 1 sc, inc, 1 sc, inc) on the arch, 18 sc, inc [50]
Rnd 3: 1 sc, inc, 19 sc, (1 sc, inc) x 4, 19 sc, inc, 1 sc [56]
Rnd 4: 56 sc [56]
Rnd 5: (6 sc, bobble with 4 dc) x 8 [56]
Remember to tie up the yarns inside to secure the bobbles.
See: TIP 2 in my blog: https://www.amilittlecreature.pl/2018/01/tip-2-change-yarn-color-in-middle-of.html
Rnds 6-7: main yarn, 56 sc [56]
Rnd 8: (3 sc, bobble, 3 sc) x 8
It is easier to count as: 3 sc, bobble (6 sc, bobble) x 7, 3 sc
Then in rnds 9-10 I crochet 56 sc in main color. And from rnd 11 I repeat the scheme from 5 rnd.
rnd 11 = rnd 5
Rnd 11: (6 sc, bobble) x 8
Rnds 12-13: 56 sc
Rnd 14: 3 sc, bobble (6 sc, bobble) x7, 3 sc
Rnds 15-16: 56 sc
Next repetition:
Rnd 17: (6 sc, bobble) x 8
Rnds 18: 56 sc
In rnd 19 I will join the opposite edges to close the body.
How to count the sts for the head ?
I have 56 sc in the round.
Count the half: 56/2 = 28
I want to leave 24 sc for the head.
56 - 24 = 32 sc [HEAD]
32 / 2 = 16 sc
Row 19: join the edges, 16 sc [BODY]
There are unworked 24 stitches for the head in rnd 19.
Stuff before starting the head.
HEAD
I count the beginning round of the head as continued rnd 19.
In row 19 (the same) I closed the body and in rnd 19 I start the head.
Rnd 19: 24 sc
Rnds 20-24: 24 sc
Rnds 25: (1 sc, dec, 1 sc) x 6 [18]
Insert safety eyes between rnds 22-23
Rnds 26: (1 sc, dec) x 6 [12]
Rnds 27: 6 dec [6]
COMB
Insert the hook between rnds 2-3 of the head.
1) between rnds 2-3 work: 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc
2) between rnds 1-2 work: 1 sl st.
3) into the centre work: 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc
4) between rnds 1-2 work: 1 sl st.
5) between rnds 2-3 work: 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc
Finish with sl st.
LEGS
Start with ch 20, insert the hook in 2nd ch from hook
and work: 3 sl st (1st claw),
then ch 4, 3 sl st (2nd claw),
and ch 4, 3 sl st (3rd claw)
[I insert the hook in the horizontal lines at the back of the chain]
Then insert the hook in 16th ch from the beginning chain
and work sl sts in each chain till the end [16 sl sts].
Cut the yarn, leaving a tail for sewing.
I stiffened the legs with starch.
